Engagaversary

Sunday will mark the 1-year anniversary of our engagement. In some ways it feels way longer than a year since we got engaged and moved Mike to Michigan, in other ways it feels like it’s been such a short stretch of time. We’ve settled into some routines, I’m loving that the house gets cleaned on a regular basis (home is where the lazy happens, I’m sooo not a chore girl), and I think we both feel more secure in this relationship. There haven’t been any major explosions, we’re both still alive and living together has made us stronger. He pushes me to be a better version of me, and I love having that safety net as well as someone who will hold me accountable while still bringing me a bowl of ice cream and snuggling on the couch.

We’ve still got a long way to go to the wedding day, but as quickly as this year flew by, the next one will too… there’s a ton of plans to get into place and 15 months to get it all done.

Jumping In

I have been itching to get some paper in my hot little hands for a while now. When we made a trip to Chicago a few weeks ago, I deftly snuck in a trip to paper source amidst our free time and picked up some paper to start playing with. I also ordered my roll tickets (so many projects slated for these, but it’s feeling like my very original touch right now, so I’m holding off on sharing until I get further into the planning processes) and a couple of rubber stamps that I’ve been eyeing for a while. Using these, I was able to mock up our STD. Once I priced out the paper source paper for what I ultimately want, it’s erring a little on the expensive side for me, so I have samples of several other papers and envelopes coming from paperandmore.com and envelopemall.com so I can find something comprable for a little less moolah. And, so I can play some more and mock up the invites too! There will be some additional custom things I’ll need to purchase before diving into the full blown paper production process, but I want to settle some decisions early on and this at least allows me to feel like I’m moving forward in some small way.

Not that I would ever get ahead of myself…

But I’ve been playing with our wedpage and I think I have the general layout pulled together now.  I’m finally putting that URL I bought last year to some use.  I still have to fill in all the content, but once I’m ready to put together a Save The Date, I’ll actually have a wedpage to go along with it! Check it out here. If nothing else it will give a little hint into the planned theme and colors.

Scatterbrained

I’ve tentatively set a timeframe, and I’m starting to scope venues around Muskegon. We’ve been engaged for 11 months and I just now feel like I might be ready to kick the plans into action and maybe actually start planning something that might eventually resemble a wedding.

So, tentatively looking at either my birthday weekend (June 11, 2011) or Father’s Day weekend (June 18, 2011) based on what’s available once we get to see some of the venues I’m considering.

I will say that wedding planning seems to be benefitted by and hampered by my scatterbrained nature though. I’m very easilly distracted by all the “ooh shineys” that surround it and boy are there a ton of ooh shineys in the wedding world. Lots and lots of distractions and inspiration that if I were to fully implement everything I thought of as clever and fun, I’d end up with a hot mess of insanity. It’s very hard to focus on the tasks at hand even this early in the game when the tasks at hand are the big things. Find a venue, set a date, start messing with the guest list and start talking to photographers.

If I were to truly sit down and focus right now, that is where I should be placing my energy at this point in the process.

6 months

A question was asked and answered and I had a new piece of jewelry, a new label and a new roommate.

We’ve been engaged and living together just about 6 months now. Wedding planning has not exactly been a hit the ground running extravaganza of activities. Yet. We’re very slowly easing into it all.

There’s no date set. We’ve just been settling into living together and coexistance over the last half a year. However, with the holiday season approaching and some of the work crazy hopefully starting to settle down soon (PLEASE!) I’m hoping to get back into the habit of at least scouring for inspiration and actually considering maybe forming something that looks a lot like a plan.

I admit, last winter even before we were engaged I had a bunch of free time and scoured around and roughly outlined my grand ideas for wedding insanity.

The main procrastination has been physical, I’d like to lose a notable amount of weight before I pay someone a fortune to capture photos of me in all my wedded glory and I’ve not exactly been focussing on that effort.

So, I’m roughly aiming towards us eventually setting a  2011ish summertime date.  I’ve got a rough outline of what I want the day to entail and who I want involved. We’ve had little brief discussions here and there and I think he’s on board with many of my ideas.

I’m sort of like a rubberband that’s stretched and waiting to snap, I’m almost ready to leave the inspiration stage and start heading down the actual planning path, I just have a few more hurdles to cross before we are there.

Of course, the inspiration phase is a great place to hover too. Wedding blogs are so much fun to scour, and I have a few ideas I haven’t seen executed by others yet that I want to hold onto as my own. I’m really hoping to be uber DIY, and with all the extra time of a 2-3 year engagement, I think I should be able to pull off a lot of projects. I’m just not quite ready to start just yet.

I’m hoping to use this blog (as a side project from my main blog which I’ve been sorely sorely neglecting) as a sounding board for my ideas, a venting spot for my frustrations and an all around gathering spot for the thought process and plans as things start to come together into an actual wedding day sometime in our future.
